It Isn't Convenient If It Kills You

I’ve said this for years, so it gives no pleasure at all to find I was right all along: storing and/or heating food in plastic containers - exactly what so many cooking instructions tell you to do on the back of the packet - not only can but does kill you.

New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine estimates that one out of every ten people dying of heart disease around the world dies because of phthalates. And they’re everywhere. In shampoo, in the bottles you buy it in, in perfume, in makeup and of course, in plastic containers such as Tupperware that everybody happily packs their kids' lunch in and puts in the fridge. The biggest problem comes when you heat it, exactly the way the instructions say you should, with pre-prepared meals.

Phthalates have also been linked to child obesity, asthma and cancer, along with undescended testicles and lower sperm counts, but keeping your towel up in the changing room is a minor problem compared with keeling over dead clutching your heart.

It’s why Helping Cards aren’t made of plastic. Every one of our cards and boxes is made from wood pulp, from responsibly sourced trees with an FSC certification. Because they aren't made of plastic if they ever wear out or you get tired of them they're fully recylable. They're even safe to eat, if you wanted to do that. And always will be.

As well as helping you get a cleaner, tidier home, we’d like to try to keep your children alive. You can help. Just like Helping Cards.
